The Riverbed™ intercepts and analyzes the TCP traffic, segments the data and indexing it. Once the data has been indexed it is compared to the data on the disk. A segment of the data that has been seen before is not transferred across the WAN; instead, a 16byte reference is sent in its place. If the data has never been seen before the segments are compressed. This ensures that same data is never sent more then once reducing the amount of used airtime and speed up the transfer.
Tested with EXPLORER 500.
