Thrane & Thrane wins Vizada Gateway upgrades

New contract covers additional capacity and LRIT communication management

Thrane & Thrane has won an upgrade agreement with Vizada for two Vizada teleports at Aussaguel in France and Eik on the south coast of Norway. The contract, valued at approximately DKK 15 million, is already underway, with the majority of the project expected to be delivered by the end of October 2009.

The upgrades, which will be delivered by Thrane & Thrane’s systems division, include additional capacity to handle increasing traffic demand, new central computer equipment to provide more processing power and resiliency, new full-IP access for more robust data delivery to customers and additional software functionalities. Among these is a functionality that will allow Vizada to enable its service provider partners to connect to its own Inmarsat-C stations through an advanced electronic interface.

This major new cooperation has been established to support Vizada’s initiative for managing LRIT communications for the majority of the European Marine Safety Agency (EMSA) registered vessels, which will number 10,000 by the end of 2009. It will also significantly improve the quality of service provided to Vizada’s Inmarsat-C customers in general.

“This is the latest development in the long lasting business relationship between Vizada and Thrane & Thrane,” comments Kim Gammelholm, Senior Vice President, Thrane & Thrane. “By enabling Vizada to increase capacity and improve management of LRIT communications, Thrane & Thrane is continuing its role as a key technology player in the critical fields of marine safety and security.”

Design, development, manufacturing and selling of satellite access stations has been a Thrane & Thrane key business area since 1990. As the leading player in the field, the company delivers high quality turnkey solutions; satellite access stations including interface to terrestrial networks, large disc antennas, RF equipment and access control and signaling equipment.
